This course is designed to help us all understand issues related to learning multiple languages (LML) in the current digital era. The reason to focus on learning multiple languages is that we all learn languages and that we are often asked to teach other people languages. It would be useful to understand some theory-based techniques so that we could do a better job learning/teaching many languages. The reason to focus on digital era is that it is the nature of this particular moment; we have no reason not to pay at least a little bit attention to this time/context. There are two parts to the course.
Basic theories and concepts in TESOL (i.e., the Language Teaching academic discipline) that could help us understand the process of acquiring, learning, and teaching languages;
Actual learning and instruction of a chosen language, with the mediation of digital tools.
Discussions and projects in the course will allow you, the class participant, to explore language teaching-related discipline/professions, although neither this course nor you as a class member is positioned to this possibility only. Since we all have chances to teach people something, this course will give us a chance to think about learning as well as helping others learn a language.
