本課程試圖藉由國際關係理論及國際政治運作角度，來剖析中國近代外交行為。在歷經多次和外國人交手的經驗後，使中國逐漸了解國際現勢，並且引進現代外交觀念，逐步以國際通行方式與外國人交往。

本課程旨在介紹西方國際關係研究途徑與流派，重大國際事件之發生經過和影響，前半學期課程的焦點為國際關系主流理論及國際安全，後半學期課程的重心則為國際政治經濟。

The course is for students at postgraduate level. It helps students to establish a basic understanding about qualitative research and qualitative research methods. By attending the course, students are expected to have the ability to conduct an independent research. Besides, significant issues discussed by the participants include: ontology, epistemology, positivism and post-positivism approaches to international studies, the formulation of research questions, data (texts) collection, and how to write a critical literature review.

This seminar will focus on the role, activity, and impact of non-state actors.

本課程旨在闡明國家行為者產出外交決策的過程，並探討影響外交決策的若干國內與國際因素。課程內容以層次分析為主軸，討論個人、國內、以及國際體系三種層次的外在因素如何影響外交政策的制定與執行。

本課程以「行動」作為提升學生對國際事務興趣的手段，本課程以個人的行動與助人的創意為出發點，要求學生自己針對重大的國際危機或全球問題設計自己的公民倡議方案以在期末前獲得最多支持為目標。
